3 Crucial Things to Know Before You Start Playing Dune: Awakening

Understanding Servers, Worlds & Playing with Friends

When you first start playing Dune: Awakening, you’ll choose your region, world, and sietch (server). Here’s how it works:

  • Each region includes several worlds.
  • Each world includes multiple sietches, which are instanced versions of the Hagga Basin map, a shared Deep Desert and social hubs (Arrakeen for Atreides and Harko Village for Harkonnen).
  • To play with friends, make sure you’re on the same world and, ideally, the same sietch.
  • If that’s not possible, you can still team up in social hubs and the Deep Desert PvP zone.

Important Server Facts:

  • Each Hagga Basin sietch supports 40 concurrent players – overflowing players attempting to join will be placed in a queue.
  • You can visit friends’ sietches but can’t claim land there.
  • Inventory, weapons, sandbikes, and ornithopters carry between sietches.
  • Only one character per world is allowed.
  • Private servers are available with customization options but no admin panel (yet).

Classes & Home World Choices

During character creation, you’ll select your starter class and home world. These decisions shape your early gameplay, but offer flexibility later.

  • Available Classes: Bene Gesserit, Trooper, Mentat, Swordmaster
  • Planetologist is unlocked later via trainer

You’ll start with one class but can unlock the rest later. Check out our class trainer guide for full locations.

While you can’t max out all classes, you can mix abilities to match your playstyle.

Bonus Tip: Your home world grants a unique emote. Pick one that fits your faction or you'll salute House Harkonnen as Atreides!

Factions & Guild Compatibility

Dune: Awakening starts with two main factions: House Harkonnen and House Atreides, with a third on the way post-launch.

Key Faction Mechanics:

  • You can stay neutral – factions are optional
  • Joining one gives access to exclusive skins, buildings, and endgame content like the Lansraad
  • You can buy enemy faction cosmetics at a higher price
  • You can betray your faction once during progression

Guild Rules:

  • Mixed-faction guilds are allowed by default
  • Once a guild is faction-locked, only neutral or aligned members can join
  • Choosing the wrong faction can remove you from a faction-locked guild

Getting started in Dune: Awakening is all about smart early decisions. Pick a server with your friends, choose the right class and armor setup, and align with a faction that fits your vision—or stay neutral. There's plenty of room to experiment.
